Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient practice which originated in China, and has been practiced for thousands of years on both people and animals.
It involves the use of fine needles, which are placed in or around ‘trigger points’ in the muscles as well as in specific acupuncture points, of which there are many!
The needles lead to increased blood flow the area, reduced inflammation and release of the body’s natural pain relief too, and affects the brain/spinal cord as well.

What can it be used for?

Pretty much anything and everything!
Pain is a really common reason for owners to seek acupuncture, but it can also be used for anxiety, allergies, and many other reasons!
The only thing it is NOT recommended to treat are cancerous tumours, as this can risk spreading them

Cost?

It costs £52.80 per session of acupuncture.
This can often be claimed for on insurance, so it’s always worth double-checking with your insurance company!

Timings?

Each session lasts 30 minutes.
We tend to do weekly sessions initially, for around 3-5 sessions, to check that this is appropriate for you and your pet.
We then move to fortnightly sessions before ending up at monthly sessions as long-term maintenance.
We can always add in additional sessions if needed! We’re here to do what’s best for you and your pet, and everyone’s pain journey is different.
